Jammu, :- The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has sought responses from the Union of India and other respondents on a petition demanding immediate, time-bound bye-elections for the vacant Assembly constituencies of Nagrota and Budgam.
The petitioner appearing in person (Harsh Dev Singh), backed by his political party to contest the Nagrota seat, argued that the delay in conducting elections is denying citizens their constitutional right to representation.
During the proceedings, the Court issued notices to all respondents. Mr. Vishal Sharma, Deputy Solicitor General of India, accepted notice for the Union of India. Ms. Mrinal, Advocate, accepted notice for respondents Nos. 2 and 5, while Mr. Danish Butt, Advocate, accepted notice for respondents Nos. 3 and 4.
The Court directed the petitioner to provide copies of the petition to the appearing counsels and allowed time for the respondents to file their replies before the next hearing.
The case will be listed again after all responses are submitted.
